Who
is Eligible for Services?
To
be seen at Occupational Health, you must be registered in
one of the programs above, or obtain an authorization form
from UA Risk Management (Julia Rosen at 621-1570, jcrosen@email.arizona.edu).
In most cases, you would be contacted by Occupational Health
staff to schedule an appointment(s) if needed. At this time,
CDL driver exams and controlled substance testing are performed
at off-site clinics. Please contact John Murphy, Fleet Safety
Officer at 621-4551, murphjoh@email.arizona.edu.
Occupational
Medicine/Urgent Needs: The Campus Health Service can see employees
for uncomplicated or simple on-the-job injuries for the first
visit, but may refer employees to Occupational Health Clinics
in the Tucson community for follow up care. For more complex
or complicated on-the-job injuries, the employee should work
with their supervisor to make sure they receive initial and
follow up care at an appropriate health care facility in the
Tucson community. The CHS will also work with the supervisors
to assist with these decisions.
The
general procedures for employees who are injured on the job
are as follows:
For
life threatening injuries, go to the nearest emergency room
or trauma center. Tell the medical provider that this is a
work-related injury.
For
non-life threatening injuries, medical treatment for employee
injuries is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
from 8 to 4:30 and Wednesdays from 9 to 4:30 at the Campus
Health Service (1224 E. Lowell street - near Highland &
6th street) or the employee may use their own primary care
provider or any other health facility.
Employees
who require medical attention evenings, nights or weekends
may seek care from any medical provider. Tell the medical
provider that this is a work-related injury.
The
employee needs to notify their supervisor as soon as possible.
The supervisor is responsible for completing the Supervisor's
Report of Employee Injury/Illness form. This form must
be submitted to Risk Management within seven calendar days
of the injury.
Medical
treatment costs associated with on-the-job injury are covered
by workers' compensation insurance. Coverage determinations
are governed by state law, and are administered by the Arizona
State Risk Management Office. If coverage is denied, employees
may be responsible for costs incurred after their initial
treatment visit.
If
you have any questions regarding occupational injuries,
contact Steve Holland at 621-1556 or sholland@email.arizona.edu.
Injured
on the Job?
We
also provide medical care for certain types of work place
injuries or illnesses, mostly related to potential exposures
to infectious materials or chemical agents. Other injuries
are generally seen in the Campus Health Service, Urgent Care.
In
the event of a job-related injury or exposure, you can come
to the Campus Health Service Triage/Urgent Care area on the
first floor of the building, or call 621-6493 or 621-6490.
You will be directed appropriately at that time. You may also
choose to be seen at any hospital, urgent care center, or
your private practitioner’s office. The forms and procedures
for work-related injuries are located on the UA
Risk Management Workers Compensation website. For questions,
please contact Belen Aranda, at 621-3626 or baa@email.arizona.edu.
