| Q:
What are the procedures for getting birth control on (or near) campus?
A: Campus Health (located in the Highland Commons building near 6th St. and Highland Ave.) has many options available for contraceptive services and education: 1. Students can make an appointment to see a nurse practitioner or gynecologist at the Women’s Health Clinic (on the lower level). We recommend that you have a thorough gynecological exam, including a pap smear, prior to starting birth control. Campus Health staff can prescribe and provide all of the following methods: oral contraceptives (the "pill"), Depo-Provera, Norplant, diaphragm, and cervical cap. Also, emergency contraception (the “morning after pill”) is available for women seeking care within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. For an appointment, call 621-6512. 2. The Campus Health Pharmacy also sells contraceptive foam and jelly, the female condom, and a variety of male condoms. Prices are generally lower than off-campus pharmacies. For more information, call (520) 621-6516. 3. Off-campus options
include Planned Parenthood at (520) 884-5562 and Pima County Health Department’s
Theresa Lee Clinic at (520) 791-7676. |
